How and where to apply for a visa?

To apply for a visa from the French Authorities in London:

- You must hold a valid and recognized passport/ travel document;

- You must be resident in the UK - i.e people must apply in their usual country of residence therefore holders of ’C-Visit’ visas or of a British visa valid for 6 months or less cannot apply from the French Consulate in the UK;

- France is your only or main destination: spending more time in France than in any other Schengen countries within the same trip
or France is the country of your first entry into the Schengen area if you intend to stay the same amount of time in all the countries visited within the same trip;
If France is not your main destination, please contact the Consulate of the competent Schengen States.

TLS Contact
In order to improve the standard of service offered to visas applicants, the French Authorities have outsourced the visa application process (from general visa information to receipt and return of the documents) to TLScontact. This service is available to all regardless of nationality, type of passport, duration and purpose of stay in France.

Be aware that, due to the introduction of biometric visas, all applicants, except children under the age of 12 and Heads of States and their spouses, must apply in person.

- To obtain the detailed list of documents relevant to the visa you are applying for, please go to the TLScontact website and complete the questionnaire online. Alternatively you may call 0845 7300 118, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30 pm to speak to an adviser.

Note that if your application is incomplete it will delay the processing of your application/ may lead to your visa being refused. We consequently advise you to double check that your file includes all documents requested as well as their photocopies before submitting your application.

Do allow at least 15 days for visa processing but do not submit your application more than 3 months before your planned dates of travel. Warning: passports cannot be withdrawn once they have been delivered to the Consulate and until the visa processing has been completed.

- TLScontact will inform you by email or text message as soon as your passport is ready for collection - You will have the option of collecting your passport yourself or via a designated third party at the TLScontact centre or you may choose to have your application sent back by registered mail.
