No-name

Fluid dynamic

Molecular Dynamic

Research & Development

Universität (Uni)

Uni

This is Germany's top universities

There are the usual suspects who dominate the university rankings of Business Week. Whether Aachen, Mannheim and Munich - the majority of universities that perform well in the rankings, are also supported by the Excellence Initiative of the Federal Republic.

RWTH Aachen
Aachen is situated in front of all technical disciplines. This is also the claim of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH), which is considered one of the few German elite universities. With its vision "RWTH 2020" it has set itself the goal by the end of the decade, one of the world's best "integrated interdisciplinary technical colleges" are. These efforts, the federal government with its Excellence Initiative.
Excellence certifies Wirtschaftswoche the RWTH University in their rank: They took first place in the natural sciences, adhesion, electrical engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering. Computer science at Aachen stands in second place

University of Mannheim
Young University, ancient seat was raised until 1967, the Mannheim Business School to University. The Baroque palace at Mannheim University home making it one of the younger German universities. Because of their origins economics, is evident in this area and the expertise of the university.
In college ranking business week she is in the fields of economics and business administration in each case the first place. She is also in the top 10 in each economy computer science (3) computer science (8) and Law (8).

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
The University of Karlsruhe computer science was the pioneer among the German universities. In 1969 she established the first German university, a computer science degree program, three years later became the first German in Karlsruhe, Faculty of computer science. Once, in 2005 they added the "research university" gave it merged in 2009 with the Nuclear Research Centre of the Helmholtz Association to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
The computer science pioneer work has paid off: The kit is in the trade for first place in Business Week rankings. In electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering, KIT comes in second place in science on the third.

Technical University of Munich (TUM)
The federal government awarded the Technical University of Munich (TUM), based on twice: on the one hand, it was 2007 on the first three funded universities of excellence initiative, on the other hand, she was appointed to the federal government as part of its start-up initiative, "Exist," the founding college. Because of the TUM research should not only but also to earn money. But they have with the UnternehmerTUM GmbH as its own management consultancy established for their students, who also has a support fund.
For Industrial computer science Wirtschaftswoche TUM first place awards at the German universities, in science there is in second place in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science industry in third place, and business administration at the tenth place.

Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU)
Konrad Adenauer, Theodor Heuss, and Gustav Heinemann studied here already: Founded in 1472, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU) is one of the most prestigious universities in Germany. In the international Times Higher Education-Ranking 2011 she was awarded as the best German university, the ranking of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, she landed in Germany in second place after the TU Munich.
When WirstchaftsWoche she took first place in the subject law, and the third in business and economics, and the fourth in science.

University of Cologne
Close behind is Mannheim, in Economics, the University of Cologne. In economics and business administration, they occupied in the Business Week ranking the second place, 3rd place in law and business computer science 5th place Just as in Mannheim, University of Cologne is also back on a commercial high school. Founded in 1901, she was converted in 1919 to the university.
Your predecessor's University was founded in 1388 as fourth university in the German-Roman Empire. 1798, it was closed under Napoleonic occupation. Today's University of Cologne is also funded by the Excellence Initiative of the Federal Government.

Technical University of Darmstadt
Sovereign is the seat of the Technical University of Darmstadt. As in Mannheim, also houses a residential castle at Darmstadt, the University. Your university status, however, a full 30 years younger than the Mannheim. Since 1877 she is a technical university, the university she was only in 1997.
True to their name their strengths lie in technical fields: The Industrial Engineering and Management, they will land in the Business Week ranking in third place in computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering it is on the fourth, in natural sciences ranked fifth

University of Muenster
Its founding in 1780 Westphalian Wilhelms University in Munster plans to align itself as a multidisciplinary comprehensive university currently. These include the establishment of interdisciplinary research centers. According to the university rankings of Business Week, however, it lacks the expertise in the technical sciences. There, they end up in any subject in the top 10 Not so with the law and economics. Here are their strengths, as the secondary offering at law, which finished fourth in the fifth position in business administration and economics.

Technical University of Dresden
Founded in 1821 as a Technical School in Dresden and in 1961 elevated to the University of Technology, is also now the largest in the technical field of competence of Dresden. In the ranking of Business Week, it is well represented in the technical subjects in the top 10. For electrical and mechanical engineering, they reached number 5 in industrial engineering and computer science 6th and 8th place in science The Technical University of Dresden, is funded by the federal government in the Excellence Initiative.

Technical University of Ilmenau
The small town of Ilmenau in Thuringia enjoys a prestigious university in computer science. After the fall of 1996 they launched the first German graduate degree in media technology, since 2006 she has written out the first German university professor of computer and video games.
Accordingly, they occupied in the university rankings of Business Week ranked the fourth in business computer science, computer science and the fifth in industrial engineering, and the seventh in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

University Fankfurt
The Bank city of Frankfurt am Main, is also in Business Week's university ranking their true image. Economics at Goethe University in Frankfurt occupies the fourth place in Business Administration in eighth place. Most Nobel laureates from the University of Frankfurt, however, come from the field of chemistry and physics.

Technical University of Berlin
The Technical University of Berlin, founded in 1879 playing in all technical disciplines in the top 10 on: 4th place gives her the business week in Industrial Engineering, 6th place in the natural sciences and computer science, engineering and 7th place in 10th place in electrical engineering.

Germany's best universities

by Daniel Rettig

The RWTH Aachen University and the University of Mannheim, the most popular universities for hiring managers, showing the exclusive Uni-ranking of Business Week. What other universities can learn from the leaders.

By the end of the school takes the life of one young man quite simple and mostly straight. Sure, there are puberty and first love, grief, anger with strict teachers or classmates unpleasant. But at least for professional issues must first adolescent worry - what will change dramatically with the high school.

How much future as a lot of uncertainty. In the situation will soon put a lot of high school, when the novelty of having attained university entrance slow, and the question of the next step.
For those who opt for higher education, the choice of the University of the way and far from simple: there are nearly 420 universities in Germany, with a total of about 10 000 Erststudiengängen on offer.

But what subject should I choose? Which university is the best? What skills should be acquired in order to later have opportunities in the labor market? Answers provided by the exclusive university ranking , which created the Business Week in collaboration with the consulting firm Universum Communications and the recruiting companies access KellyOCG.

What matters for economists

Other rankings ask students about their experiences in the classroom, to assess the scientific quality of the publications of the university or the professors. Not all wrong - but for many high school graduates and those graduates are secondary criteria.

Who would not seek an academic career or a doctorate after studying would not, for it is less relevant, whether to accommodate a professor's last article in a reputable journal was or how the food tastes at the cafeteria. Who wants to find a job after graduation in the economy, including for the other things - such as whether the curriculum is current, the university is well connected with the business.

. The ranking of Business Week focuses on awareness of practical relevance , and therefore was launched earlier this year, a survey of nearly 7,000 personnel managers of Germany's largest companies - since they decide on which college graduates are preferred set.

All HR professionals answered the same questions: Which universities and colleges are the best graduates? Prefer candidates with the new Bachelor's and Master's degrees? Are students of private universities better than those of state?

The answers not only provide insight into the best universities in Germany. They also show what the most prestigious universities better - and what others can learn from it.

At the top is in comparison to 2011 nothing has changed: There is again the RWTH Aachen. As in the past two years, Aachen occupied as the only German university in four categories, the first place: in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, natural sciences and industrial engineering.

And also in computer science can RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg welcome good news: There, the University climbed year on year from third to second place. Only the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, a merger of the former University of the local research center is located in front of the RWTH.

Has long been the Technical University in Aachen, an excellent reputation in engineering - the higher the probability that she is ahead in such rankings.

The Matthew Effect

The U.S. sociologist Robert Merton wondered back in the seventies, why some scientists are cited more often than others. He stated: The more prominent one researcher, the higher the probability that he has been cited by other - which in turn multiplied his reputation further.

Merton called this "Matthew effect", in reference to the same gospel. This trust a man his three servants part of his fortune to. Two of the employees manages to double the sum, after which their Lord rewarded. A servant hid the money in the world, however, for fear of losing it.

The result: He is haunted by his master from the farm. "For if he that hath, given the" it says in the Bible. A phenomenon that can be observed today in nearly all areas of life.

Good students are encouraged, top managers have to worry about their future career, as a rule any more. And universities, once the land on the front seats of university rankings have, on the one hand a better chance of being called back.

On the other hand, the most prestigious universities do a lot to defend the top places. RWTH Rector Schmachtenberg is counting on a lively exchange between natural sciences and engineering. As part of the Excellence Initiative and these projects are funded that are still in the ideas and start-up phase.

With the adjacent Research Centre Jülich, the students have spent some solutions for more efficient energy production, for the early detection and treatment of neurological diseases. Or they develop processors for computers.

The Siemens group presented the university in late 2011 to six million euros available to develop environmentally friendly methods and procedures for recovery of rare raw materials.

Of all these initiatives will benefit the graduates: Those who have tortured by the demanding studies at the RWTH and as electrical and industrial engineering or engineering company advertises in a company, the application process much better chance than a candidate who graduated from a no Uni-name-was.

Mannheim climbs in other subjects

But the university ranking also shows that it is possible to improve in the rankings. Hans-Wolfgang Arndt can attest to that. The 67-year-old has been since 2001 Rector of the University of Mannheim - and generally successful in this role one of the most spoiled German university managers.

The university is in the fields of business and economics unchallenged for years in the first place and can defend this position in the current ranking.

Arndt's his post from next September after eleven years and is retiring. He says goodbye with a sense of achievement in university rankings. For Mannheim encounters in the current rankings in two subjects from the Top Ten, where the university last year was not represented:

In the field of computer science Mannheim climbed from eleventh to eighth place, in law, it went from twelfth to eight. Anything other than a coincidence.

Arndt has focused in recent years on bringing next to the economics department and the other subjects forward. What he is now "profile raising" was called, in fact, a small revolution - structurally and thematically.

The higher education chief resolved to cut all the subjects closely related to economics - including mathematics and computer science. Students should learn to solve business challenges with their methods. "Whether marketing campaigns, insurance rates, or production planning - without a maths and computer science, many companies no longer exist today," says Arndt.

In addition, the law school in cooperation with the Business School Bachelor's degree program in-house lawyer. Prospective corporate counsel should prepare themselves for careers in corporations there.

Before Arndt says goodbye to retirement, he focuses the University of Mannheim, this year especially on internationalization. More than nine million euros will be invested to expand exchange programs with partner universities worldwide.

As much a study in Mannheim, paving the way into management, last year was in an evaluation of the business network Xing. More than 4.7 million professionals and managers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there have been indications made it their career.

Xing wanted to know which universities are the most common sets of leaders in the German company. Lo and behold, most top managers accordingly brought forth the University of Mannheim.

Damning indictment of bachelor's graduates

But Alf is not just about the graduates ready to make a good conclusion to a career: "We want to find experienced and mature people," he says. This will prevent the university to supply businesses with immature students. One problem that criticized in the recent survey for the university ranking many recruiters.

Especially over the Poll bachelor graduates is a damning verdict: 62 percent of respondents criticized the lack of practical experience, 49 percent complained about a lack of maturity of the graduates.

And just when it comes to the first job, such flaws as the major obstacle to the further life: 91 percent of hiring managers pay attention particularly to the personality of the candidates, 87 percent are important practical experience of the candidates.

In the theoretical section consists of a Bachelor's degree programs apparently still lagging far behind: 36 percent of diagnosed lack of knowledge of young people. "Many have never seen a text of 50 pages written in hineinvertieft or anything," said one of the surveyed HR professionals.

"You do not have enough time to gain real practical experience," complained another. "The education is often very limited," said a third.

No wonder to know that the potential for jobs with high potential, such as consultants or project managers, preference to applicants who have a master's degree.

Still, the current job outlook, hiring managers look very positive. Nearly 90 percent rate the prospects in the labor market optimism - in 2010 only 39 percent said. The odds are good that a good degree definitely worthwhile.

Study guaranteed jobs

The study is the best insurance against unemployment could still Kolya Briedis recently by the Higher Education Information System (HIS) to prove. The scientists interviewed for a recent study, 10 000 graduates, the crisis in 2009 successfully completed their studies, whether they were able to get a job since then.

Result: Although the students crowded into a time of economic downturn on the labor market, unemployed graduates from the traditional Diplom, Magister or State Examination just four percent. A clear case for a university degree - no matter which university to choose the graduates themselves.

Bologna-Prozess

hilfskraftt>>facharbeit>>technik/meister>>Dipl.-Ing.(FH)>>Dipl.-Ing.(TU)>>Dr.Ing.

Finance, International Business

http://www.fh-worms.de/index.php?id=660&L=1
http://www.wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de/studium1/studiengaenge/master/your-application.html
